The Astor House originally opened in 1867 as a hotel for state legislators, but was later turned into a boarding house and operated as such until the 1970s. Later converted into a museum, it will soon undergo structural renovations to fix degrading elements of its foundation. While the museum is closed to complete these renovations, exhibits and artifacts will be updated to better reflect its history as a boarding house.
