Thursday-March 31. No doubt, it was a big job for the folks at the Arvada Center, sorting through the 1,653 submissions that came in for “Art of the State.” But they asked for it, throwing open a broad invitation for any Colorado artist who wanted in. The sorting was left to co-curators Collin Parson and Dean Sobel, who was borrowed from the Clyfford Still Museum to help with the job. In the end, the pair selected 191 works from 160 artists, and while there are some busy names in the lineup — Margaret Kasahara, Monica Aiello, Lauri Lynnxe Murphy — the show gives some lesser-known, hard-working artists a chance to be seen. It’s a big show, packed into all three galleries at the center and covering 10,000 square feet. Free. 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada. 720-898-7200 or arvadacenter.org.
